Can Brian Hughes help him turn that potential into a winning return at 9/1?

Rascallion appeals at the bigger price on his return to hurdles. Henrietta Knight’s seven-year-old has made only five starts in this sphere, recording a win and three seconds alongside a fall. There is scope for further improvement, particularly if he learns to settle and jump more efficiently.
His recent Flat appearance at Bath gives the selection some encouragement beyond that older hurdles form. Returning from an absence stretching back to May 2025, he finished sixth of ten, beaten just over three lengths. He made progress from behind midfield before keeping on at the same pace. My interpretation is that he retained enough ability to make this return interesting, with that outing offering a reasonable foundation for improved fitness.
His Wincanton success in March 2025 demonstrated what he can do when allowed to race positively. He made the running, recovered from an untidy jump two out and responded when challenged at the last, beating Elforleather by a length. That willingness to battle is a useful asset, and today’s predominantly good ground is consistent with the conditions in which he won.
He now races from 112, 2lb below his last hurdles mark. On that previous handicap appearance at Hereford, he raced keenly, made a mistake two out and finished second to Rewired. Those details matter: conserving energy and avoiding costly errors could help him produce more from a slightly lower rating. I would like Brian Hughes to establish a comfortable rhythm near the pace without getting drawn into an unnecessary battle for the lead.
This is a stronger Class 3 assignment, and Jaminska and Flash Man bring persuasive recent Chepstow form. Rascallion also has to prove his jumping remains sharp after such a long time away from hurdles.
Nevertheless, 9/1 makes him worth a win bet. The combination of limited hurdles mileage, a recent comeback run and a modest easing in his mark gives him a credible chance of improving on what he has shown.
