A narrow defeat at Wolverhampton and an encouraging third at Southwell put Dumfries firmly on the radar at 12/1.

Interesting value play at 12/1, arriving in much better form than his overall 2026 record suggests and returning to a Southwell C&D where he has already won.

He was third of 13 over this exact mile only seven days ago, beaten 2¾ lengths after racing much more positively than usual. He took a keen hold early but remained in touch, moved towards the near side over two furlongs out and kept on well enough to make the frame.

Importantly, he runs from 51 again today, so there has been no rise for that effort, while regular rider James Sullivan returns to the saddle.

That latest third followed an excellent second at Wolverhampton in September. DUMFRIES was held up in a steadily-run race and left himself plenty to do, but finished strongly to go down narrowly. He had also finished third at Beverley immediately beforehand, so aside from one disappointing Southwell run on 10 October, his recent form has been consistently strong.
